Friend forever
My bestfriends
I believe that interpersonal relationship is associated with two or more people.Understanding is also a major importance in relationship.During my high school years from form 1-3,i felt like the loneliest person in the world as i was betrayed by my own so-called friends in schools. This happened in SMK Bukit Jelutong as known as 'the elite school and only rich kids goes there as the surrounding areas are for the elites'.I was elected as the organizer for year end farewell class party. So some of my 'friends' suggested to have the party at Monterez Golf Course as the place is standard and luxurious. We collected rm100 from each person and managed to collect almost rm rm3000 from the class.I was obligated to hold the class money and to pay the deposit for the hall booking,rm 500.Everyone agreed. The next day i was called to the principal office and accused to cheat money from the students.I was trying to explain that it was everyone's idea and everyone agreed to pay for it.My 'friends' were called to verify my stories and guess what happened.Thay pretend that the class never agreed to it and acussed me for collecting money behind their backs.I was devastated and feel backstabbed at the same time.A few months after that i determined to transfer to another school to start a new life as i cant handle the stress and pressure from everyone there. And there i was at new school in kota damansara hoping to have new friends whom are loyal and care for each other. And there i was some great friend whom are looking for each other backs no matter what happen and look out for each other.Whenever we have problems,we will discuss it with each other and try to solve it together. And its been 5 years we are best friends and we believes that understanding in communication can make the friendship bond even stronger.

New girl
Once,i had a korean friend whom just arrived to Malaysia to further her studies here in Segi University college. Her name was Kim Hyun Kyung. As for me myself i also a freshmen whom just enrolled for my first year in Segi.Because she from Korean her English language are not that good and she still have her strong korean accent when talking so many people do not understand what she was saying and they decided to stay away from her as they dont get what she's talking about. It was really hard for her to fit in because nobody willing to help her.I felt sorry for her but i tried to communicate with her eventhough it was hard at first but i could understand some of her korean words(maybe because i watched many korean shows and dramas) so i help to correct her english communication bit by bit and soon she was able to speak english clearly as she always practices to speak with everyone. Then people began to approach her and soon enough she already adapt to the new environment and now she can talk non-stop for hours about her day.
I realized that we need effective communication in communicating with other people as the person we communicating might have different perspectives about communication.Cultural differences may causes us to view the world and other people in differently ways.Effective communication also can help us to create a new relationship which can involves a brand new side of view thus making us compatible to communicate with everyone from variuos cultures like Kim Hyun Kyung from Korea.

Language
Language. If you look up the word “language” in the
dictionary it will most probably give you a long and well kind of complicated
interpretation. To me language is a important medium in communication. As we
are living in a country with 3 main races which is malay, chinesse, and indian
.Each race has it’s own language. How do we communicate with each other ? You don’t
walk down a street and see a Chinese man communicating with an indian
man in mandarin unless the indian man actually understands mandarin.Basically
the 2 main language that we all use to communicate in is Bahasa Malaysia and
English.
My dad sent me to a Chinese primary school to learn
mandarin. Well as a kid I honestly hated the language mandarin and the whole
Chinese school system . Which 7 year old would want to start school and 7:30 in
the morning and go home at 3:30 in the evening with tons of homework ? As a
child I was immatured and only saw the disadvantages of learning mandarin ,such
as I was forced to endure canning for getting most of my answers wrong for
spelling test and having to complete a mountain of homework. Looking back I am
actually grateful to my dad for sending me to a Chinese primary school to learn
mandarin. Being and indian and being able to speak fluent mandarin has been a
great advantage to me .
I still remember very well this incident when I was
13 years old my parents brought me along to this furniture shop to get a new
sofa for our house. As my mum was about to purchase this black leather sofa ,I
heard the Chinese salesman saying to his bos in mandarin that this indian lady
doesn’t know the actual cost for the black leather sofa , we can get a profit
by charging her extra. Upon hearing this I replied to the Chinese salesman in
mandarin , I told him my mum may not know the actual cost of the sofa but you
as a salesman should be honest and cheat your customer. Words could not
describe the look on the Chinese man’s face , he was so embarrassed in the
sense that he actually apologized a thousand times and gave us a 15% discount
on the sofa.
I’m not being a stereotype and saying that just
because of one incident that every Chinese individual are bad. To me being
given the chance and opportunity to learn mandarin is definately a great thing
. I noticed that when I communicate in mandarin with the aunty’s living near my
house you could see by the look on their faces that they respect you as an
individual . I’m not proud to say this but I actually like ease drop on
people’s conversation a lot. I mean when people look at me they would not know
that I can speak mandarin, so I kind of tend to ease drop on people’s
conversation. It’s not a good thing to do but it’s kind of interesting. There’s
definitely many advantages in learning a new language .

Listening
Listening, this something that we do daily
whether we are aware of it or not. My close friends always classify me as a
good listener. Well I’m a timid person I am more towards a listener than a
talker. Before I actually looked through my Human Communication text book I was
actually not aware of the fact that they are many types of listening such as
active listening, empathic listening and critical listening . Come to think
about it we actually do engage ourself to these 3 types of listening. When we
are listening to our friend telling us about how her parents who were married
for 20 years recently got a divorce, in this situation when we are listening to
our friend telling us about her parents divorce we are actually applying
empathic listening . As a human being you feel sorry for your friend.
Your best friend is telling you her plan about
going on a vacation with you to Thailand. As you are listening to your best
friends plan you are actually applying active listening which is listening with
a purpose. Obviously when your best friend is telling you about her plan to go
on a vacation with you in this situation when
you compare it to when you are attending an afternoon history class you
will definitely pay more attention listening to your best friend talk than you
history lecturer. In other words, you see the purpose in listening careful to
what your best friend has to say than listening to what a history lecturer has
to say since you hate history.
When you come to think about it you can
know whether a person is listening careful to what you have to say or simply
just waiting for you to stop talking. Recently I had completed my first
assignment for my public speaking class. We were supposed to give an evaluation
on the speech of our choice. I noticed that when some of them presented their
speeches by the audience restless body language you could tell that most of the
audience is not listening to what the speaker has to say they are just
constantly checking their watches and waiting to time to pass by quickly. By
observing simple things like this you can tell whether someone is listening to
you or not when you are speaking. If a person leans forward, maintains eye
contact with you 85% of the time that shows that the person is actually pay
attention and interested in what you have to say .

Me, as A
Chinese Cultural Society Member!
Chinese Cultural Society Member!
Special thanks to Chinese Cultural Society members
in providing me photos, supports and sources
to accomplish my Interpersonal Communication blog assignment.
| The beginning of year of Dragon 2012 |
Recently,
I found out that my relationship with 2011/12 Chinese Cultural Society (CCS)
members is based on Knapp’s stages of relational development - the process by
which relationships grow. The five stages are initiating, experimenting,
intensifying, integrating and bonding.
CCS
members and I met in the Recruitment Drive in 2011. For me, they are energetic,
enthusiastic and dare to take risk.
Later,
we attended the CCS meeting. We played lots of ice-breaking games together and
on the spot, we exchanged our superficial personal information, such as what
courses we are doing, where are our hometowns and what activities we like.
However,
our friendships began to intensify right after the Chinese New Year (CNY)
celebration in SEGi.

During
the CNY event preparation, we delegated the task equally and accomplished it
with sweats and laughs together.

The CNY event is a huge success for CCS members! We loved it. We enjoyed it. And we strived for it.
Then, we did a lot of activities as a group. For instance, we often went for dinner, tasted desserts at Snowflakes, and watched movies in One Utama shopping center together.

Moreover, the happiest experience we had together was when we went to Taman Pertanian Malaysia and Klang last Sunday.

| What an awkward location for photography session >o< |
Since the majority of the members are boys, I got used to talk to them straightforwardly rather than beating around the bush and gaining nothing in return.
Meanwhile, I no longer shy away from talking to men. The experiences with CCS boys have increased my confidence and healed my phobia about men as I do not know what a man’s mindset is like, as well as how to deal with men previously.

| Apparently, they triggered my violent side :p |
I have a strong bonding with CCS members now and I hope that we can still keep in touch even after we have graduated from SEGi UC.
With
love,

OK or not???
When a person asks you something similar to the question above, and you are just too busy to reply him/her, you would show hand gestures such as thumbs up, or the okay sign.
However, these simple hand gestures to substitute words or also known as emblems are somehow quite misleading. It might have some other meanings in different cultures.
So normally whenever you make a circle with your thumb and your index finger, it means okay, great, fine and etc. But in other cultures such as Brazil and Germany, the said gesture meant ‘Anus’, therefore meaning homosexual. You might get beaten up if you showed this okay sign to the wrong person.
There was once I was showed to a video of a stand-up comedy by Russell Peters. The Canadian-born Indian once talked about Italians and their hand gestures. The most outstanding and also the only one that Russell emphasized on were: with palms facing upwards, all fingertips touching each other.
According to Russell the simple hand gesture to Italians simply meant ‘what the f***’. He later said that the same gesture to Indians meant ‘Eat’! Even in Malaysia we sometimes use this hand gesture too, mostly used as an emblem or illustrator.
So now I guess those of you who read this will definitely be more careful when using emblems.
Moral of the story is: Don’t show any hand gestures! Just speak it out loud!!

Intrapersonal Communication
I bet that every one of us knows or do it every day. Every. Freaking. Day. I mean come to think about it; the people you have saw, met, or talked to has to do with it.
Whenever you saw this person wearing somewhat out of the ordinary clothing, your eyes scan from head to toe, and telling yourself “Yer, what la this people wear like that, latest fashion ka?” Or let say when you accidentally meet your long lost friend. When conversation takes place; deep inside your head you will be like this, “Walau eh! Long time no see this people! Oh my God, iPad 3 and iPhone 4S on one hand, Samsung Galaxy Note on another hand! Kena toto ah? Damn this fella became so rich!” Another is about physical condition. Once there is this guy I used to talk to who has bad breath I will start thinking, “Weird smell is coming from his mouth, and should I tell him that? If yes, how? What will happen if I tell? Will he be mad at me and I end up losing a friend I can talk to? Will I hurt his feelings or confidence if I tell him this? Bah!” I chose to keep quiet and not telling him anything about bad breath.
I agree that communication begins with our self. We always have this voice in your head analyzing, deciding what to do, eat, talk and et cetera from the moment you wake up.
If you are have thoughts such as “Should I comment on this post?” The answer is, “Yes please. Go ahead. Thank you very much.”

Getting to know Louise
![]() |
| My initial opinion about Louise >o< |
At
first, I labeled her as an introvert, obedient and conservative lady since she
always tagged along with her own friends. I was surprised when I realized that
I had to be grouped with her for the nicotine presentation and case study – I wondered
that our future conversation will be dull and dry… what an awkward situation!
Then,
my impression was overturned when one rainy evening with thunderstorm, Louise
and I sitting next to the window nearby the I.T. lab, chatting. Suddenly, huge
wind rattled, swayed the windows back and forth; since the noise interfered with
our conversation, I decided to close the windows.
Louise
looked at me in wonder as we had the same thought.
It
was a turning point of our friendship.

| The turning point of our friendship ^v^ |
Later,
we shared a lot of our views.
Actually,
Louise had deferred one semester of her study before to work while enjoying in U.S. She worked as a housekeeper at one of
the hotels in Grand I admired her courage on letting go all the attachments
such as friends, family and familiar environment in Malaysia and started anew
in Great Canyon.
![]() |
| Louise in United States 2010 |
She
is independent and open-minded when welcoming challenges, as well as in stepping
out her own comfort zone.
In
comparison with Louise, although we are of the same age, I am far too pampered
by my family and friends for they helped me to clear my path in my life.
Moreover,
Louise knows hip hop. She often dances with friends and performs on stage.

I must say that Louise filled me with awe by changing my initial opinion about her – from introvert, obedient and conservative labeled lady, to an independent, open-minded, outgoing and cheerful girl.
In fact, first impression can be altered by getting to know the other people better.

Learning Mandarin is not an easy job!!!
I would like to start by mentioning that Mandarin is one of
the hardest languages to study. But nowadays, I also need to admit that
it is one of the most important languages to learn. Especially when you
are staying and living in Malaysia, it is necessary for you to know Mandarin
besides the national language, Bahasa Melayu.
I start to realize that, Mandarin
is so important when I step into college life. My family as well as my
friends told me earlier, to learn Mandarin as extra language after I finished
the high school. But due to time consumption I didn't take any effort to
learn it.
Now studying Mandarin as my forth
language helped me realize the many other languages out there that most people
have no idea how wonderful they are. Mandarin is a language full of
meaning, history, and art.
I started my class this
year onwards together with my brother. My teacher to whom I
learned to call 'lau shi' - if you know Mandarin, you know that in English it
means teacher, well she had a hard task and her work consisted of teaching
newcomers basic words that could help us to have a brief and polite
conversation with any person around us. I thoroughly enjoyed the class
and yes, I was totally surprised at myself and the language. Can you
believe it or not? There was NO grammar in Mandarin...
It requires a lot of patience to
learn a language especially Mandarin. The words are so tricky for me to
write and I need to follow step by step to write it. Besides that, when
my teacher taught us to say "Hi, how are you?" in Mandarin, and when
she gave me my translated name I simply couldn't stop telling people around my
name, and asking around how they were doing. It was so exciting for me to
know two simple questions that make a huge difference and hope I will speak
fluent Mandarin one day soon.
Thisha
Are people less attracted to short hairstyle???
A month back, I cut my hair to short - like chin length short. At the time, my hair was fine curly that reach all the way to covering my back. Once I back home from saloon, my mom was shocked, and asked “Why are you cut your hair to this short?” I just smiled and never even say a word to her.
That was at
home. The first day in college, most of my friends, course mates and even the
aunty in cafeteria said I look very different in short hair style. I really
don’t have any idea what they meant by different, but I feel awkward and asked back
myself “Is my hair that short?”
Some people like
short hair and some prefer long but that doesn’t make you less attractive at
all!!! I think it’s the way you carry yourself and how you rock your short
hair!
Longer hair
requires more upkeep, but it is also very flexible when it comes to styling.
Ladies with long hair can create variety look just by styling their hair
differently. The shorter the hair, the less flexibility a women has to create a
different look for herself. However, shorter hair is easier to maintain, and
some people prefer the younger, more pixie look afforded by shorter hair.
To
get short hair, you must be thin with medium height. Really tall women look dumb
with short hair, so short hair just perfect and fine for me. My brother asked
if I was happy with my “big girl hair style?” I told yes, I love it and that I
look like a cute princess.
I
love short hair, I think it’s classy and sophisticated yet sexy at the same
time J
and I also think it gives girls a sort of bold image, if you would!
